Impression. It is never only the horse that needs help finding mental and physical balance. Being a good trainer for your horse starts with yourself. We want our horse to be relaxed but are you aware of tension in your own body? We want our horses to bend to the left and to the right with equal flexibility, but how is your own flexibility? We want our horses to walk in balance but how is your own posture and walking? We want a true connection with our horse, but do you have a connection with your inner self?
Impression. Centered Riding was developed by Sally Swift and is based on the knowledge of human and horse anatomy, balance and movement. Centered Riding is a mix of grounding techniques from the oriental martial arts, Feldenkrais, Alexander technique, mental imagery and sports psychology. Through increased awareness of inhibiting patterns, and replacing them with a more balanced, free, and coordinated use of self, both horse and rider can move more freely.
Impression. Natural asymmetry. Every horse is asymmetrical. This natural asymmetry is not a problem for a horse, problems only arise when the riders weight is added. If the rider does not recognize and correct this imbalance, this can lead to tension in muscles and over straining of the front legs. So the rider has to recognize the natural asymmetry and imbalance and help the horse to develop symmetrically in body and limbs. This training is called Straightness Training.
Straightness training is a logical set of structured gymnastic exercises that make the horse, fit, flexible, strong and muscular to enable the horse to carry the rider properly.
Impression. I found The Masterson Method when I was looking for a way to help my horse Bombero. Two veterinarians told me I could never ride him again and that maybe I should take a drastic decision. I was looking for anything that could help him to find relief in his right front leg. Of course straightness training has helped him a lot, teaching him to carry more weight on the hindlegs, but sometimes you find in your training that there is an energy block or that the neck or spine is not aligned or can not bend correctly and you can’t improve it in your training. Then this method can help to find the area of tension and help the horse to relax through them with soft touch and gentle movement.
